This week was our second discipleship night of the year. We had a fun and entertaining evening together, and we discussed Provers 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
My husband brought this verse up a few weeks ago to his pitchers and emphasized how they can support and push each other to get stronger. One of them mentioned he would like to discuss this verse more at discipleship night, so that was our focus this week. Guys talked about how they strengthened each other at practice and in the weight room, but we also encouraged them to address ways they had done this for each other off the field.
I was so encouraged by some of their experiences. One young man choked back tears as he explained how his friend and teammate had taken him fishing to get away from a hard time he’d been going through. Another addressed how his friends and teammates helped him get through a difficult breakup. A third explained a meaningful encounter praying for an injured teammate.
I am excited to watch these young men blossom over the course of this year and to continually come back to this idea of how they can sharpen each other.
